COVID Update: 9/17/2020

Dear Esteemed Residents, Family Members, and Staff,

We hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Just to update you all, we have started limited group activities and limited communal dining per state and local Department of Health guidelines.

We have officially entered into Phase Two of the reopening process!

Please keep in mind that residents still spend a great deal of time in their rooms which means that activity staff conducts individual room visits daily, seven days a week; conducts small group activities; provides face time calls, outdoor visits, and now indoor visits. To accommodate this hectic schedule, please be mindful of the guidelines set forth below.

INDOOR VISITS:
We are now permitted to begin indoor visitation by appointment only. We are proceeding through this cautiously, with an open mind that guidance may change at any time. We will begin this process Monday September 21st as follows:

  • Indoor visits will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Appointment times will be 10am-12pm, and 1pm-3pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays additional 6:30pm-7:30pm. Due to overwhelming response, visits will be limited to a specific time slot.
  • Indoor visits will be permitted to take place only in a designated assigned area in the atrium on the first floor of the facility. You may not enter other areas in the facility.

OUTDOOR VISITS:

  • Weather permitting, outdoor visits will be offered Saturdays and Sundays. Appointment times will be 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm. Due to overwhelming response, visits will be limited to a specific time slot.
  • For outdoor visits, drive up to Morris View and continue down the road until you see a brown sign with an arrow to Rutgers Corporative Extension Service. You can park there and follow the path to our backyard patio and meet your loved one who will be waiting at the appointed time with a staff member at least 10 feet away from the fence.

ALL VISITS:

  • Only 2 visitors are allowed during each visit.
  • Residents that are on isolation precautions are unfortunately not allowed to come out of their rooms; visitation will need to be postponed until transmission-based precautions have been discontinued. Unit Managers or Daria can find out that information for you.
  • All visits are by appointment only. Call Daria at extension 2865 or email her at d.cohen@morrisview.com to set up a day and time.
  • All visitors must stop off at the front receptionist desk in order to sign the consent form, get their temperature taken and fill out our screening tool.
  • All visitors must wear a mask.
  • Please avoid physical contact.

Our prayers and hopes are with you all, and we are hopeful that things go back to normal very soon!!

To All Residents, Staff, Family Members and Visitors

As coronavirus (COVID-19) becomes a worldwide concern, we would like to update you on our efforts to protect all of our residents, staff, family members, and visitors. While the New Jersey Department of Health advises that the risk to the general public remains low, healthcare workers and residents are at elevated risk of exposure.

Based on this knowledge the following measures have been implemented:

    • Staff education (COVID-19 and infection control: hand washing, transmission-based precautions, etc.)
    • Restricting visitors (in extenuating circumstances, e.g. end of life visits, the administrator alone may authorize an exception to the visitation policy). Phone and video calling will be available as means of communication with your loved one, at your or their request. )
    • Visual alerts: signs and posters at all entrances)
    • Increase in hand sanitizer stations, hand soap and personal protective equipment)
    • Frequent disinfecting of common surfaces including railings, elevators, doorknobs, etc.)
    • Daily contact with the local health department)
    • Careful screening of new admissions)
    • Screening of ALL staff (fever, cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, recent travel, contact with suspected cases)

If anyone (resident or staff member) presents with fever and acute respiratory illness, without an alternative explanatory diagnosis (such as influenza) and with no known exposure to COVID-19, the local health department will determine whether the individual will be considered “under investigation” for COVID-19.

As more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate with you. We are available to answer any questions and/or concerns. Updates are obtained regularly from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), New Jersey Health Department, and local agencies. It is important that we all continue to keep residents and ourselves as safe as possible.
